Landlocked Salmon and Togue (Lake Trout), both cold water fish, are to be caught right on top with light tackle; spinning gear or fly rods are the preference. Trolling with streamer flies or small lures provides the sport of seeing “the leaper” break surface in his efforts to escape. This surface fishing lasts through May and well into June, until the waters warm and the fish drop to deep water, then rods and lures that run deep are used to take your limit.
The stream that our cabins overlook provides excellent fishing for land locks from the beginning of the season to October 20th. (Oct 1 – Oct 20th – catch and release only). The stream is fly fishing only, and streamer and dry flies work very well. Also, the numerous small brooks located in the area offer you a chance at a good catch of native Brook Trout. In late May and early June we find the Small mouth Bass becoming active on the surface and earning his reputation as, pound for pound, the best fresh water fighter there is.
Casting surface lures with spinning or fly rods provide the excitement of the surface strike, but an equally popular method of fishing is trolling the shore line. Either way, you’re in for some good jumps and some “tail-walking”!
As the lakes warm in July and then August, bait fishing “the holes” becomes increasingly effective for bass. The White Perch school in the holes, and provide fast action for the younger members of your family, and a delicious feed for the adults.
Our area has over two dozen good size lakes that provide a variety fishing experiences. Our fishing season extends from ice-out to the end of October 25th. (Oct. 1 – Oct. 25th – catch and release only), Your preference of fishing or the time of your vacation can easily be satisfied by the best fishing in eastern Maine.
